Shemar Moore Might Be Joined by More Familiar S.W.A.T. Faces in Upcoming EXILES, Exec Says: “Still Figuring Out”

Fans of S.W.A.T. have reason to be optimistic about the future of the franchise. While Shemar Moore is currently the only confirmed lead returning for the upcoming spinoff S.W.A.T. EXILES, studio executives have indicated that the door remains open for more familiar faces to appear.

During a recent industry event, executives from Sony Pictures Television explained that they are “still figuring out” how other beloved members of the original S.W.A.T. family might be incorporated into the new series. Rather than ruling out reunions, they emphasized that maintaining the connection to the original cast remains an important creative goal.

According to the current premise, Hondo is pulled out of retirement after a high-profile mission goes disastrously wrong. He is tasked with leading an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of talented but inexperienced recruits, forcing him to bridge the gap between seasoned leadership and a new generation of officers.

Although the new team introduces several fresh characters, longtime viewers may not have to say goodbye to the original squad forever. Executives have suggested that fan-favorite characters could return in various capacities, whether through guest appearances, recurring roles, or occasional reunions as the series evolves. They have not committed to which actors will appear or how frequently they might return.

Since the spinoff was first announced, many fans have voiced hopes of seeing familiar characters such as Deacon, Hicks, and Tan reunite with Hondo. Those discussions have remained active across the fan community, with viewers eager for the franchise to preserve the chemistry that made the original series successful. Community reactions have ranged from excitement about Hondo’s return to disappointment that the initial announcement focused primarily on Moore.

Since those early comments, additional casting news has emerged. Jay Harrington (Deacon), Patrick St. Esprit (Commander Hicks), and David Lim (Victor Tan) have all been confirmed to return in some capacity, alongside Moore, while EXILES also introduces a new generation of recruits.

With production now complete and the series scheduled to premiere on Starz on September 25, 2026, fans can look forward to seeing how S.W.A.T. EXILES balances fresh stories with appearances from the franchise’s most familiar heroes.
